WITH AN EYE ON THE FUTURE, CODY BELEW MINESHIS PAST IN NEW SINGLE “LONG, LONG ROW”
His debut album, I Did It For Love, is out later this year
Nashville, TN (July 19, 2024) – Meteoric Southern glam rock artist Cody Belew’s next single, “Long, Long Row,” out July 19th, serves as a soundtrack for anyone fighting for something they believe in. While working on his forthcoming debut album, I Did It For Love, Cody thought back to a phrase from his childhood, seeing the parallels in his life at that moment.“My dad always told me that if you’re going to try for something difficult, it’s going to be a long row to hoe. That can be applied to so many pursuits in life,” he says. “Long, Long Row” is the creative manifestation of this idea, brought to life through Cody’s authentic storytelling, bluesy vocals, and a driving rhythm that will stay with you long after you’ve heard it.
Cody’s commitment to social justice and civil rights reform for women and LGBTQIA+ Americans is a huge driver for his songwriting and music. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) getting continuously blocked in Washington directly influenced Cody’s mindset and lyrics on “Long, Long Row” and remains a cause he is committed to pushing forward. Co-written with Dustin Ransom (Richard Marx, Chely Wright, Emily West), it is a soulful anthem to anyone facing a challenging road to righteousness. The accompanying music video will drop on July 26th.

Hailed by Consequence as “one of the freshest voices coming out of Nashville,” Southern glam rock artist Cody Belew’s music reflects his soulful roots through authentic storytelling and commanding vocals. Assembling a mix of candid originals and well-loved classics by artists who inspired him, Cody released his self-titled debut EP in early 2022. Cody Belew was led by the single “Rodeo,” which premiered in Times Square and found regular rotation on CMT. He received praise for his reimagining of the Brooks & Dunn classic “Neon Moon” (a collaboration with GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Dave Audé), which topped a variety of popular Spotify playlists and recently surpassed three million streams on the platform.
Belew recently landed a coveted spot in CMT’s lauded “Listen Up” class (which counts Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, and Maren Morris as alumni) leading into the release of his poignant single “Charlene,” in which the former Southern Baptist questioned the marriage of religion and politics in America. Striking a chord with fans, the accompanying powerful video racked up over one million views on YouTube.
The title track “I Did It For Love'' from his forthcoming debut album of the same name was released in September. Inspired by the actions of another artist whose insecurities villainized Cody, the song led him to realize that everything he does comes from a place of love. Grimy Goods called the single “meteoric and captivating... One inspired by the arresting magnetism of Freddie Mercury – though he also echoes Orville Peck’s enigmatic allure and a talent for crafting country pop hooks like Kacey Musgraves.” His latest single “Horseshoes & Hand Grenades” saw its inspiration from the country music of the 1970s, primarily due to the heavy influence of disco during that time. The accompanying videos for both singles are currently in full rotation on CMT, presenting Cody at his most bold and bedazzled.
A long-time Nashville resident, Cody is spending the summer releasing new music as he makes his way towards the September release of his debut record, I Did It For Love, in which he’ll traverse between his deep-seated love of Southern music and his obligation to activism.
