Singer/Songwriter Cody Belew Unveils New Single “Crimes Reloaded” With Acoustic Performance on Episode Four of Netflix’s Coming Out Colton
Announces string of shows at Nashville’s Iconic Lipstick LoungE
Singer/songwriter Cody Belew will perform an acoustic version of his new single, “Crimes Reloaded,” during today’s Episode Four of Netflix’s new series Coming Out Colton following former NFL athlete and The Bachelor star Colton Underwood as he comes out to friends and family.
Cody says, "I wrote the song out of frustration. Any given day, you can read the news of the world and find a story of someone from the LGBTQIA+ community being brutalized, harassed, killed. You name it. It occurred to me that these crimes against us were carried out because we are considered crimes by merely existing. I wrote it as sort of a call-to-arms; a beacon of hope and resilience to all of us that must stick together. Just like we always have. ‘Crimes Reloaded’ is a retelling of my original song ‘Crimes’ fueled by a little more gasoline on the fire. I am angrier now. I’m more emboldened. I needed the song to rise to the occasion of a new, lived experience.”
“Crimes Reloaded” is available everywhere today, and packaged as a Digital 45 that includes his original recording of “Crimes.” It is available for streaming / download HERE.
Cody's on-camera appearance on Coming Out Colton kicks off a busy few months for the artist, who starts a string of shows at Nashville's iconic Lipstick Lounge, where he’ll perform on January 15, February 19, March 19 and April 16. Tickets for all four shows are on sale now and can be purchased HERE.
The Lipstick Lounge shows will feature music from Cody’s forthcoming EP, due out in early 2022. The personal nature of these new songs will cement his reputation not only as a contemporary musician informed by the classic sounds of the American South — including country, bluegrass, blues, and Cajun music — but also as a modernized version of the archetypal southern man, whose hobbies include restoring furniture, fashion, interior design, gardening and tending to a small brood of chickens.
“I’m looking forward to sharing the new music I’ve been working on and couldn’t be more excited to have the support of the Netflix team and Colton Underwood to help kick it off,” says Cody.
About Cody Belew:
Born and raised in rural Arkansas, singer/songwriter Cody Belew spent his childhood fishing, building forts, riding horses, and catching lightning bugs in mason jars. His love of the South is in his blood and his music reflects the gritty, soulful textures that separate him from the pack in today’s country landscape. While Cody reminisces about the smells of hot biscuits on his mama’s stove, the sounds of crickets and bullfrogs in the fields, and the rough textures of lumber he worked on with his dad in the family barn, the thing he says speaks to him most is the one-room church in his hometown of Beebe, Arkansas where he learned to sing when he was just a toddler.
Pursuing a music degree, Cody eventually moved to Nashville where he made ends meet working with fashion, furniture restoration and music. It wasn’t long before his vocal and songwriting talents were recognized and he was invited to be on NBC’s The Voice.
As a Top 8 finalist, Cody was asked to open for Delta Rae, Florida Georgia Line, Rascal Flatts, and more, and started writing with GRAMMY Award-winning Deana Carter and Mike Reid, ACM Award winner Tia Sellers, and ascending recording artists, Hailey Whitters, Rick Brantley, and Waylon Payne, to name a few.
Assembling new songs, from candid originals to well-loved classics by artists who inspired him, Cody looks forward to releasing his debut song collection in 2022 through his label partner, Visionary Media Group.
